This summer I spent a weekend at the Silver Springs Guesthouse. The guesthouse is located just 10 minutes outside of Elkwater, AB, nestled in the Cypress Hills. It is in the ideal location, with stunning views all around, away from any commotion. The guesthouse does not have any wifi, but my partner and I easily found other ways to entertain ourselves. We used the barbecue on the porch to cook steak, potatoes, and carrots for supper. There were several board games to choose from at the guesthouse, supplied by Tara, the host. Crazy 8’s was our card game of choice, and we played several matches.

Once it was dark outside we had a gorgeous view of the dark night sky on the porch of the guesthouse. While staying at the guest house it reminded me of the Italian saying “Dolce far niente”, which means “The sweetness of doing nothing”. During certain points in our stay, it would be silent. In these moments I enjoyed being idle taking in the beauty of the Cypress Hills, and the calmness I felt in the cozy guesthouse.

The guesthouse is a fabulous house to have a get-together with friends and family. It sleeps us to 12 people, and there is lots of space for several activities. Tara the owner of Silver Springs Guesthouse is super welcoming and friendly. In all the bathrooms Tara had supplied extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other supplies just in case we had forgotten something. Silver Springs Guesthouse also offers camping and the latest addition to its amenities is an event centre with plenty of room for large gatherings.

The newest addition to this property is that they have a venue for weddings or other group events as well as campsites to accommodate more people.  And HUNTERS, they also have a building with hooks and ropes to hang your game!
